After they return to Princeton, Wilson realizes he hadn't had this kind of fun since the day Amber died and decides to return to Princeton-Plainsboro. House recovers from his gunshot wounds, but despite his pain temporarily disappearing and the fact that his leg is working again, he is soon back on Vicodin. He runs into a particularly difficult patient at the clinic, who turns out to be a police officer, who then makes it his business to get House sent to jail for possessing Vicodin illegally. Unfortunately, House has used Wilson's prescription pad to forge his own prescriptions, even though Wilson has been supplying him with Vicodin freely. House nearly goes to jail, but Cuddy then perjures herself in court to have the charges dismissed. He was cast for the role after having previously worked with House's creator David Shore on the CBS show Hack.

Thirteen ends up finding out the patient only slept with her to get to House, who had been rejecting the woman as a patient for many years. Unable to cope, Wilson resigns from the hospital, while Cuddy desperately tries to get him and House to repair their shattered friendship. Meanwhile, Thirteen struggles with her own diagnosis of Huntington's and helps to treat an executive assistant (Christine Woods) with a similar personality to her own. Given the options of spending two years in and out of hospitals or six months in fairly good health doing what he wants, Wilson opts not to accept treatment.

In Last Resort, we also see him offering Thirteen to participate in clinical trials for Huntington's. At the end of the episode, he is waiting by Thirteen's bedside when she is recovering from kidney damage. The team come in the next morning and start going through files.

They start arguing whether it is an organic disease or mental illness. Taub spots a space heater in the video and argues for carbon monoxide poisoning. House agrees and orders that she be put in a hyperbaric chamber. Chase arrives with the clotting factor, but Thirteen sends him out to get more. Thirteen just wants to give her more clotting factor, but Chase tells her she needs a CT Scan and surgery to even have a chance of surviving.

She tells her she hasn't been on a boat since she was a 13 year old freshman in college. Thirteen says it's not possible, but Masters suggests giving her a stress test - it will only take half-an-hour. While House's team is trying to find out what is wrong with the patient over the phone with House, House tells them not to rule out the husband.

This one works and he has the pleasure of texting Wilson during his own funeral to tell him to shut up. The two men head off on motorcycles to enjoy the rest of Wilson's life and House's death. House and his team investigate an overweight ten-year-old girl (Jennifer Stone) who has a heart attack and her mother (Cynthia Ettinger) insists that House and his team look past her weight to find the diagnosis. Adding to his stress, Vogler demands House get rid of a member of his team. It is revealed that Chase has been feeding Vogler information about House's cases. When House tells Cuddy and Vogler he chooses to fire Chase, Vogler rebuffs him and tells him to choose Foreman or Cameron instead.

Thirteen wants to know if Chase is going to ask her about the Huntington's trial. He says he's not interested, but asks if she wants to have sex with him. When Thirteen gets confused, Chase admits he is sexually interested in her and was being patient, but with her moving away, his deadline has changed. Before she can reply, Dr. Richardson comes in, feeling much better. He agrees to return to the hospital, but he's obviously showing side effects because he says everything looks shiny.

She accuses Spencer of sleeping with her to get to House, and Spencer admits she followed Thirteen to a bar to ask for help, but counters that Thirteen was only using her for sex. Thirteen notes the biopsy results were negative and wants to discharge her. Suddenly, Spencer clutches her chest and the cardiac monitor beeps.

Chase goes to touch the woman, but Thirteen warns him to use gloves because she has hepatitis C. Thirteen and the woman were in prison together and the woman helped keep her out of trouble. The woman's fingers start to turn blue and her left arm goes numb. They go looking for it and find a mass, which they think is a lipoma that was aggravated by the stab wound. They grab a syringe to remove some of the mass to improve blood flow.

The team takes on the case of a 16-year-old factory manager (Emily Rios) who collapsed when her lungs suddenly filled with fluid while at work. The teenager informs House and team that she has been an emancipated minor ever since her parents died. Meanwhile, Foreman asks for House's permission to work on a clinical trial and House rejects his proposal. In an effort to prove himself capable of working without House's supervision, Foreman takes on his own pediatric case.

Harold taunts him by telling him he's going to hit on Thirteen. The start of the episode shows House waiting outside New Jersey's Middlebury Correctional Institution. When the doors open, Thirteen walks out of the prison and is surprised to see House waiting for her. House is driving Thirteen down the road and he asks what she did. House confirms he knows she pled guilty to excessive prescribing, but wants to know what she really did.

The eighth and final season of House premiered on October 3, 2011 and ended on May 21, 2012. This season starts with House in jail after the events of "Moving On". Other important events that happened in this season were Thirteen's departure from the team, the addition of two new fellows, Wilson's disease among others.

It appears from this that House would like to have relationships with some of the women he works with, like Lisa Cuddy and Allison Cameron, but knows that pursuing such a relationship would be inappropriate and near impossible. House's anger over Stacy's decision not to trust him poisoned the relationship and led to Stacy leaving. House started to lean heavily on Wilson for emotional support, eventually leading in part to Wilson's divorce from his second wife, Bonnie Wilson. House's condition is most likely made worse by the fact that prior to the infarction, he was quite an active athlete, engaging in golf and running on a regular basis. About ten years before the series started, House participated in a paintball game pitting doctors against lawyers. One of the lawyers, Stacy Warner, shot House and put him out of the game.

However, while House was comatose, Stacy, acting as his medical proxy, decided to go with Dr. Cuddy's suggestion to have the dead muscle surgically removed. Although this most likely saved House's life, it left him with permanent intense pain in his right leg. The wound on his leg still bears an obvious scar from where the muscle was removed and there is a divot in his skin where the muscle used to be.

After Dan exhibits more symptoms, including a myoclonic twitch and a blocked blood vessel, House diagnoses Dan. Dan suffers from an auditory hallucination during a procedure, however, ruling out House's diagnosis. Using coffee cups from the parents, House does an unauthorized paternity test and discovers that neither parent is biologically related to Dan. House flashbacks to a case he had earlier that involved a mother who did not want her baby to be vaccinated and theorizes that Dan is suffering from a measles virus contracted during his childhood. House confirms his diagnosis with a retinal biopsy and successfully cures Dan.
